The 53rd International Botillo Festival Highlights Volunteer Work in Bembibre

The 53rd International Botillo Festival will highlight the work of volunteers who, in an altruistic and selfless manner, dedicate their time to helping others or organizing numerous activities in Bembibre. In the area of humanitarian aid, recognition goes to the Red Cross, Caritas, and Manos Unidas; And, for their organizational and logistical support—which is essential for major municipal events and festivals—to Civil Protection and the volunteers of the Municipal Festival Board (known as the “brigada de empuje”).

With this goal in mind, the Botillo Festival’s cultural week includes several specific activities that will showcase the work these people do and bring it closer to the public.

Exhibition and Documentary “The Echo of a Gesture”

Blanca Porro , an artist from Bembibre, is organizing the exhibition “The Echo of a Gesture,” which will open on January 30 at 6:00 p.m. and will be on view through February 28 at the Casa de las Culturas. The exhibition will feature objects and materials loaned by the various groups—ranging from clothing to identifying items and merchandise—so that the public can gain a firsthand understanding of their activities and some details of their daily lives.

In addition, on February 2 at 8:00 p.m., the documentary video of the same title will be screened, which focuses on the work of volunteers in the municipality through first-person accounts. ““The goal is to highlight the work of volunteers through their stories,” explains the author, “for better or for worse—the difficult moments and the rewards of being a volunteer.”

Roundtable Discussion

One day later, on February 3, at 8:00 p.m., a roundtable discussion will focus on the role of volunteerism, featuring firsthand accounts. Writer and radio host Nicanor García Ordiz will organize and moderate this event, which will feature participants who will share their experiences and what volunteering means to them, offering a broader perspective on what it means to be part of these communities.

All activities will take place at the Casa de las Culturas in Bembibre.
