Gastronomy, culture and tradition
One of the most important gastronomic events in the Spanish northwest, which has been recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest
Bembibre’s Botillo Festival have been an annual gastronomic and cultural event since 1973. It enlightens the bond of this village population with this meat-stuffed pork intestine preparation.
El botillo es un producto cárnico típico de la comarca del Bierzo, cuyos ingredientes principales son la costilla y el rabo de cerdo. A partir de ahí se pueden añadir lengua, carrillera, paleta y espinazo, en proporciones no superiores al 20% del total.
Es un embutido característico de la cocina berciana, especialmente durante los meses de invierno por su alto contenido calórico. Un producto que se ha mantenido en la cultura popular como un embutido emblemático por la tradición de nuestros antepasados.
En la actualidad cuenta con el aval de una Indicación Geográfica Protegida que certifica su calidad de elaboración en un ámbito concreto, que coincide con los términos municipales de la comarca del Bierzo.
Con estos antecedentes, la celebración del Festival Nacional de Exaltación del Botillo de Bembibre mantiene y preserva la cultura popular con la exaltación de este manjar en una fiesta que se ha convertido en uno de los eventos gastronómicos más importantes del noroeste español. No en vano, el Botillo tiene la capacidad de reunir a más de un millar de personas en cada edición.
Acto cultural y cena de gala
El desarrollo del Festival consta de dos partes: por un lado, el acto institucional y cultural, que incluye el discurso de mantenedor y, por otro, la degustación del embutido en una gran cena de gala.
El acto central incluye también una actuación, habitualmente musical, de grupos o artistas reconocidos en el panorama nacional. Por el Festival del Botillo de Bembibre han pasado, entre otros, artistas como José Mercé, Bertín Osborne, Café Quijano, Shayla Dúrcal, Carlos Núñez, Diana Navarro, El Consorcio, etc.
Después de la cena, el evento culmina con un baile para poner el broche a esta celebración que, año tras año, sigue ganado adeptos.
